Apigee migration: Changing the engine while the plane is flying

When one of the bank’s largest platform migrations in recent history was initiated, Marat Khandros and the platform engineering team faced a daunting challenge: move from legacy Apigee OPDK to Apigee Hybrid without any customer involvement or service impact. This talk explores how months of detailed planning, strategic workstream division, and real-time problem solving made that possible. Khandros will walk through the migration journey, including how API consumer data (credentials and application-specific attributes) was preserved, how user access was transitioned with complex Active Directory permissioning, and how producer configurations were retained. He will also share how automation reduced migration time per API from nearly 30 minutes to under a minute, and how observability and automated rollback systems ensured safety and transparency.
