Using Kotlin to Create Kotlin to Teach Kotlin within Space

TOPIC At Instil we use Space as the primary mechanism for coaching developers during virtual training. To ensure privacy, we create a dedicated instance for every workshop we deliver. Initially, this led to headaches when we were manually configuring profiles, teams, repos, blogs, chats and checklists. We since solved this by using the Space HTTP API to create an automated pipeline. Today anyone can configure any workshop in a matter of minutes. This talk will walk you through the code behind this pipeline. In addition to the Space API itself, we will be covering OAuth, the Ktor HTTP Client, DSLs, Functional Patterns and Integrating Testing.

SPEAKER Garth Gilmour - Instil - Head of Learning Amy Crockett - Instil - Developer

ABOUT Garth Gilmour moved from development to mentoring back in 1999. He’s delivered well over a thousand courses and workshops in more technologies than he cares to remember. For the past seven years he’s been ‘Head of Learning’ at Instil. Garth speaks frequently and helps organise a bunch of meetups and conferences in Ireland. When not at the whiteboard he coaches Krav Maga, lifts heavy weights and fights nerf wars with his kids.

my Crockett is a developer at Instil, mostly working on backend services in Kotlin and Java. She graduated in Game Development from Queens University in 2017. Amy has been shortlisted for young developer of the year (Belfast Digital DNA Awards) and has spoken at a number of tech events in NI. Outside of work she doodles, crochets, bakes and raises kittens.
